The International Centre for Women Playwrights has bestowed a 2014 50/50 Applause Award upon MeltingPot KC for having "successfully produced female playwrights in at least 50% of their 2013-14 season."
In fact, MeltingPot produced an entire season of women playwrights, all based in Kansas City, including world premieres by two MDC writers: Vicki Vodrey's The Frowning Vajayjays of Shady Pines kicked off the season last spring to positive press. Then, August--which was technically beyond the parameters of ICWP's 2014 award, but not MeltingPot's ongoing commitment to local playwrights--saw the impressive debut of Echoes of Octavia, by Michelle T. Johnson (who also happens to sit on the board of the ICWP).
Congratulations to Vicki and Michelle -- and to MeltingPot KC! You can see the company's gracious acknowledgement of the honor at the 7:25 mark in this "celebration video" released by the ICWP
