Echoes of Octavia, by Michelle T. Johnson, has been selected as one of only three new plays that will be featured in the 2015 TRU Voices Play Reading Series in New York City this June. Sponsored by Theater Resources Unlimited, the annual series provides space and support for a developmental reading of a new play, followed by a panel discussion with prominent New York producers, general managers, and artistic directors focusing on potential venues, marketing, and budgeting of the work.
The TRU Voices reading, for which the exact June date will be announced soon, is being produced by Patrick Blake, whose theater company Rhymes Over Beats also plans a full New York production of Echoes in the next 18-24 months.
This marks an exciting continuation in the journey of a play that Michelle first saw staged in a reading at KC MeltingPot, which gave it a full production in 2014, and which she continued to develop once she became a member of MDC.
